Navi Mumbai youth sexually assaults UK-returned friend

Navi Mumbai: A 22-year-old youth was arrested by Sanpada police for allegedly sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman friend, who had arrived from London, UK, where she is pursuing higher education, reports George Mendonca.Devidas Kathale, senior inspector of Sanpada, informed that, the arrested accused youth has been identified as Mahir Makada, a resident of Sector 28, Vashi. An FIR was registered at Vashi police station against him by the complainant woman. As the crime took place at a hotel in Sector 14, Sanpada, on May 8 night, after which the victim woman lodged a complaint on May 14 alleging sexual assault on her by the accused Makada, the zero case was transferred to Sanpada police station on May 15. The accused Makada was arrested on Saturday.The Belapur court has remanded him to police custody till Monday.SI Kathale said, "The complainant woman studies in London, UK, and had come to meet her family residing in Vashi. On May 8, she asked the accused friend Makada to accompany her for drinking beer. While the woman consumed beer, Makada did not. As she claimed that she was not in a position to go home drunk, she told him that she will stay at a hotel. Makada took her to a hotel in Sanpada and insisted that he will stay with her. However, taking advantage of her being inebriated, he allegedly sexually assaulted her."
