, and to introduce measures to alter commuter behaviour, said K K Ashraf, senior divisional security commissioner, Central Railway, adding that there was a 44% reduction in fatalities after such measures were introduced on a 5km stretch in Thane.

The measures include painting sleepers yellow as a train’s speed can be better gauged, and a three-panel photograph of a person being run over by a train to prevent people from crossing tracks.
