The police have confirmed that the preliminary report indicates a match with Shariful. Following his court appearance at Bandra court on January 24, Shariful's custody was extended until Jan 29, as police need to conduct facial recognition testing.

A senior IPS officer from State CID told TOI that they have no role in the case and asked to check with Mumbai police.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Satyanarayan Chaudhari has confirmed the authenticity of the detection and Shariful's arrest, supported by evidence.

DCP (Zone IX) Dikshit Gedam clarified that they are still waiting for the final fingerprint test report, dismissing circulating rumours about mismatched fingerprints.

A senior police official has clarified that the State CID is not involved in the fingerprint analysis. The case remains with Mumbai police, who conducted the forensic examination of the fingerprint.

The preliminary report shows a match with the arrested suspect. The official explained that an earlier negative test result pertained to a different individual, a drug-dependent person from South Mumbai who bore a resemblance to the CCTV footage.

A police team from Bandra has travelled to Kolkata based on Shariful's statement to investigate the agent who allegedly provided fake Indian documentation and arranged his travel from Kolkata to Mumbai.
