MUMBAI: The
Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a contempt petition filed by
BMC
joint law officer
Sanghmitra Sandansing
against civic chief
Iqbal Chahal
over appointment of the corporation’s law officer.
Sandansing’s counsel Vinay Navare said
Chahal
had flouted an April SC order upholding a Bombay HC order which said the in-charge law officer SK Sonawane could be continued in the post for a limited time. For BMC, ex-AG Mukul Rohatgi with advocate Asha Nair said the HC had directed the BMC chief to consider Sandansing’s candidature to the post, which he has, before finalising Sonawane for the post hence there is no wilful disobedience as alleged by her.
The SC bench of Justices B R GAvai and Hima Kohli agreed with Rohatgi and dismissed the petition. —
