A special COVID-19
vaccination
drive is organised for the
transgender community by Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Saturday, June 19. Those without valid ID proof will also be covered in the drive, informed Mayor Naresh Mhaske.
"A special
vaccination campaign
is being implemented so that the transgender community in the city are not deprived of the
Covid-19
vaccination. Under this vaccination campaign, efforts are being made by the Municipal Corporation to accommodate all sections of the society," the civic body said.
The special vaccination drive is scheduled from 11 am to 2 pm at TMC's Parking Plaza near Jupiter hospital in Thane.
Under this vaccination campaign, the transgender community members who have their own Aadhaar card or any other identity card, as well as those who do not have an identity card will be able to get vaccinated. The civic body officials have appealed to the transgender community to get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it is available to them.
Last month, a section of Mumbai's transgender community was gifted food and grocery items from an NGO rooted in the Jain Community. The donation was conveyed through the hands of BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar. The trans individuals had requested the MLA to look into facilitating their COVID-19 vaccination by organising a special medical camp as hospitals are reluctant to treat or even admit them.
Meanwhile, Thane city reported 82 new coronavirus cases on Friday with 14 cases from Majiwada Manpada Prabhag Samiti, 11 from Vartaknagar Prabhag Samiti and six from Lokmanyanagar Savarkarnagar Prabhag Samiti.
