Two boys drown in a water body in Nalasopara

MUMBAI: Two minor boys who went swimming in a waterbody located at Fatherwadi in Nalasopara (east) drowned on Saturday. A search is on for three other young boys who reportedly accompanied the victims.

The victims have been identified as Amit Suryavanshi (11) and Abhishek Sharma (13). They were residents of Hawaipada in Nalasopara (east). According to locals, the victims along with three other friends had come to the waterbody around 1.15 pm. Locals heard screams and rushed to the spot. They managed to pull out Amit and Abhishek. They were unconscious and later declared dead in the hospital.

Locals informed the police and the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation firemen, who reached the spot. Firemen said that while a search has been launched in the water body, they are also ascertaining if the remaining three boys ran away on seeing their friends drown. Locals said digging work for the Virar Alibaug Multi Modal Corridor was underway at Fatherwadi as a result of which water was accumulated. The boys jumped into the water to swim and could not access its depth.
