Mumbai: Two students from a technical college drowned in a river at Manor in Palghar district on Monday.
According to the Manor police, Pankaj Mishra and Anmol Sahu, both 20, entered the Deharja river in Durvesh village alongside the highway at Manor at around 2 pm. Their friends Hrishikesh Shelar and Nitin Gawad also got ready to get into the water but backed out. As Hrishikesh and Nitin stood on the banks of the river, they saw Pankay and Anmol drowning. They screamed for help and alerted the locals, who dived into the river but could only fish out the bodies.
Students of the Ideal Institute of Technical Studies, Wada, the boys had bunked the class and decided to spend time alongside the river to beat the heat. None of them knew how to swim. The bodies were taken to the rural hospital where the autopsies were done. The autopsy report stated death due to drowning. The bodies were handed over to their parents.
A case of accidental death has been registered.
