CNC demands autonomy for Kodavas on Republic Day

Madikeri: Codava National Council (CNC) activists staged a dharna in front of the DC office on Sunday during Republic Day, seeking the Union govt to protect the indigenous Kodava community's rights and dignity.The CNC president, NU Nachappa, submitted a memorandum to the district officials, which was addressed to the President, PM, and the Secretary General of the United Nations.The organisation appealed for the establishment of Kodava land and geo-political autonomy. The activists stated that throughout their history, the Kodavas developed a unique social and cultural identity. As guardians of Kodava land, they established a distinctive character and dignity in their homeland, they stated.The CNC requested the govt to safeguard the indigenous Kodava community's rights and dignity.
