JCTU dharna over anti-labour policies

Mysuru: Members of Joint Committee of Trade Union (JCTU) staged a dharna and held a public meeting at Gandhi Square in the city on account of Quit India movement and accused the Centre of adopting anti-people and anti-labour policies.
They shouted slogans against the Union government contending that it is still continuing to exploit the working class through its policies even after 75 years of Independence.
They said that the Quit India movement, which was launched by freedom fighters during 1942, set the stage to free the country from foreign rule. They condemned the Centre for curtailing the rights of labourers by bringing amendment to the Labour Act as well as increasing the working hours to 12 hours from eight hours, permitting night shift for women workers which would lead to exploitation of women.
Seek minimum wages
The protesters urged the centre to fix minimum wages of Rs 31,000 per month to all unorganised sector workers, universal pension of Rs 8,000 to all workers, opposed privatisation of public sector units, extend MGNREGA scheme to urban areas ensuring 200 days of job guarantee, to exclude from farm equipment and machineries from GST tax collection, safety for all migrant workers, ensure 10km of rice per head for all ration card holders, besides to introduce welfare scheme for unorganised labourers and fulfil other demands.
Senior theatre personality C Basavalingaiah, JCTU convener Jagannath, AICTU H R Sheshadri and others were present.
