No takers for home guard jobs in Kodagu, says ASP

Madikeri: Although there is a provision to recruit 500 home guards in Kodagu district, not many have come forward to perform duty. Consequently, the number of home guards in the district has reduced to 187, said district home guard commander and additional superintendent of police (ASP) KS Sundarraj.Presiding over the Home Guard Day programme held by the district home guard at the District Home Guard Office in Madikeri, he said some have come forward voluntarily to perform duty in different districts. In that regard, he advised them to respect their profession and focus on making a living. Home guard personnel are given Rs 500 per day for performing duty. He said that one should perform any work with dedication and focus on shaping the future.ADC R Aishwarya said the home guards work for the good of society. She opined that this is a kind of philanthropic work.Police inspector Ravi said the home guards also perform their duties with dedication like police. They do a lot of work in traffic control, he said. Awards were presented to 10 people who rendered good service as home guards in the current year.
