MCC seeks ₹26cr to beautify city before Dasara
Mysuru: With just a few days left for Dasara celebrations, Mysuru City Corporation has submitted a Rs26 crore proposal to the state government to take up civil works for the beautification of the city. It has planned to repair roads, beautify parks, paint barricades, and replace defunct streetlights to prepare for the 10-day extravaganza. MCC has already identified areas that need beautification by conducting a special inspection. It has also decided to beautify the circles around Mysuru Palace, fix footpaths, repair drains and replace broken stone balustrades on the 5km stretch of the Dasara procession route from the palace till Banni Mantap grounds. MCC has also planned to beautify all prominent heritage structures and government offices running in heritage buildings with illumination arrangements. All circles in the city will be painted and decked up by keeping ornamental flower pots to attract visitors. MCC has decided to operate a fountain at Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital Circle on Sayyajirao Road before the start of Dasara festivities. It has also initiated measures to open the newly constructed Town Hall parking facility after completing all minor works. Apart from asphalting all major streets around the Palace, MCC has released Rs 10 lakh for each ward for road repairs and asphalting.As the first batch of Dasara elephants have arrived and camped in Mysuru Palace, Dasara activities have gained momentum. The MCC is waiting for the release of Dasara funds to take up civil works, mayor Shivakumar told TOI. He said a team of 20 officials led by him and the MCC commissioner inspected the city and submitted the proposal seeking funds to give a new look to the city ahead of Dasara celebrations. Tenders for the civil works will be called as per norms and a short deadline will be imposed to complete the works once the funds are released, the mayor said. MCC commissioner Ashad Ur Rehman Sharif told TOI that apart from submitting the Rs 26 crore proposal, MCC has held discussions with Mysuru Palace Board officials to also illuminate the circles around Mysuru Palace on every Sunday to attract more tourists to the city. Mysuru Palace Board has agreed MCC’s request, he said.
