Mysugar stops operation

Mandya: Weeks after it started its operation after a long fight, the Mysugar factory in Mandya has stopped operation. The sugar factory crushed 1 lakh tonnes of sugarcane in the last five months but has suddenly stopped operations. The factory has the capacity to crush 3,000 tons of sugarcane daily. But the sugarcane was not being crushed adequately due to technical problems. When the factory was restarted on 1 September 2022, it targeted to crush 3 lakh tons of cane. However, the factory did not start its operation on time. This forced sugarcane growers to supply the cane to other factories. The factory was started without preparation, said SC Maduchandan, general secretary of Karnataka State Farmers Association. The factory should be revived so that the mistakes that have happened now should not be repeated, he said.

Madikeri urban body fines shops without licence
Madikeri: Cracking the whip against shop owners who were operating without trade licences, the Madikeri CMC on Wednesday raided 454 shops in the city. They slapped fines and asked shop owners to apply for trade licence. As a result of the fine, the municipal council got an income of Rs 60 lakh. On the parking problem in Madikeri city, the commissioner said already the CMC has called for tenders six times for parking, but no one participated in the tender process. “We have reserved Rs 10 lakh for building a multi-parking system. Though the EMD and other fee is reduced to 50% for the tender as a special case considering the grievous problem of parking, no tenders have been received so far. The major reason for this negative response is non-availability of required space in the city to build a parking system,” he said.
