Mysuru commuters grapple with worsening traffic congestion
Mysuru: Traffic gridlock has tightened its grip on central Mysuru, with Hardinge Circle and the KSRTC suburban bus stand on Bengaluru-Nilgiris Road emerging as choke points.
Sudden closure of roads or diversion of traffic at the busy circle causes inconvenience to regular commuters like us. We understand some development works are happening but it shouldn’t cause trouble to commuters especially during peak hours, says Albert Santosh, an employee.
Ongoing civil works without prior notice are adding to the congestion. Partial road closures and diversions are forcing vehicles into narrower lanes and causing confusion at junctions.
Commuters have urged authorities to deploy additional traffic personnel, streamline bus movement, and ensure roadwork is carried out with proper signage and public communication.
A senior traffic police officer attributed traffic congestion in Mysuru city to increased vehicle population and said Mysuru is going the Bengaluru way with regard to traffic.
Commissioner of police Seema Latkar said additional police would be deployed to manage vehicular movement at Hardinge Circle and monitor the situation.
Mysuru City Corporation deputy commissioner (development) CS Manju told TOI that the UGD pipe works project is under way at Hardinge Circle. Officers concerned would be informed to take precautionary measures, put up traffic diversion boards, and complete the work at the earliest to avoid inconvenience to road users.
