on Wednesday protested against demonetisation in the city even as Left activists and SDPI held separate agitations.

After leading a rally from the party office near Mysuru railway station, Mahadevappa said when Congress had demonetised currency, it kept RBI in the loop, unlike Prime Minister Narendra Modi who took a unilateral decision.

Meanwhile, Social Democratic Party of India and Communist Party of India condemned the prime minister’s initiative. They alleged that due to demonetisation, the GDP came down to 5.4 from 7.9. Even after a year, people are suffering and the economy is slowing down, they stated.

Farooq Ur Rehman of PFI said, “Demonetisation only helped people like BJP chief Amit Shah’s son and Anil Ambani, poor people suffered a lot and many were left jobless.”

Abdul Latheef and Devanoor Puttananjaiah of SDPI said demonetisation failed to root out corruption, confiscate fake notes and contain terrorism; it has only created more problems. The Mysuru chapter of SDPI staged a protest in front of the Central Post Office on Ashoka Road.

CPI members observed black day. H R Sheshadri, secretary, CPI, Mysuru district, said: “If Modi had taken a collective decision, such problems would not have arisen. All the promises which Modi made while imposing note ban have fallen flat. He also failed to stop the ongoing terrorist activities in Kashmir.”
