Karnataka: Rain continues to pound Malnad; Jog Falls a big draw

: Unrelenting rain in

Malnad

region continued to disrupt normal life, with rivers, lakes and streams overflowing in Kodagu,

Hassan

, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts. Other than houses getting flooded, standing crops across farms were washed away.


The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for the districts till 8.30am on Tuesday, while a yellow alert has been sounded for Mysuru and Chamarajanagar.

On the upside, tourism and farming activities witnessed a spurt in Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts, with many waterfalls in Malnad region roaring back to life.
