Ismaili youth ambassadors lead climate awareness campaign at city junctions
Nagpur: Around 50 young climate change ambassadors from the Ismaili Civic conducted a climate awareness drive at major traffic junctions across Nagpur on Thursday, urging citizens to adopt eco-friendly habits amid rising concerns over global warming and extreme heat conditions. The awareness campaign was organised at Katol Naka, Gondwana Square, Sigri Square and Nelson Square among others. Students from the Ismaili community representing Nagpur, Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Gondia, Gadchiroli, and Indore participated in the drive along with nearly 25 volunteers, including scouts and guides groups.Holding placards, the youth interacted with commuters during traffic halts and encouraged people to take small but impactful measures such as reducing pollution, conserving electricity and water, planting trees, avoiding plastic waste, and adopting sustainable practices in daily life. The initiative attracted significant public attention, with many passers-by appreciating the effort and calling for similar campaigns.Suleman Virani, president of the Ismaili Council for Central, Northern and Eastern India, said environmental challenges can be addressed effectively through awareness, responsible citizenship, and community participation. He also thanked the traffic police for supporting the initiative. The campaign comes at a time when several parts of India are witnessing severe heatwaves, with temperatures crossing 45°C in many cities. Organisers said increasing heat-related illnesses and environmental degradation highlight urgency for greater public awareness, collective action.
