NAGPUR: NCP state president Jayant Patil’s suspension has once again rocked the Maharashtra assembly on Monday. The entire opposition staged a walkout demanding his reinstatement.
Leader of opposition Ajit Pawar raised the issue before the question hour requesting the chair to reinstate him. He said he had already apologized for Patil’s objectionable words against speaker Rahul Narvekar. He asked deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to take a lead in the issue, as Patil was one of the senior most members of the lower House.
“We took a matured stand and did not show aggressive behavior. Patil is in the city but at his room at MLA hostel, due to prohibitory orders. Fadnavis is son of the city and had been on various posts from leader of opposition to CM to deputy CM. He can do it if he wants,” Pawar said.
Fadnavis replied to him that he will discuss the issue with CM Eknath Shinde. He said the latter went to Delhi to attend function to observe ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ in memory of Guru Govind Singh’s two sons of six and nine years, who sacrificed their lives. He said he would be back by evening.
“In their honour, the central government observed this ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ on December 26. He was invited to this programme by the central government because Guru Govind Singh’s connection with Nanded in Maharashtra, where he lived his last years. He was invited along with Punjab CM and therefore it was important for him to attend the event,” he said.
Dissatisfied with his reply, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) members resorted to sloganeering and staged a walkout. Later, Pawar told the media that the entire opposition was deeply concerned with the way the winter session of state legislature was being held in the city. “Despite entering second week, nothing major has happened. Instead of taking a stand on border row, the government is avoiding the issue though we are ready to support them unconditionally,” Pawar said.
Patil was suspended for the rest of the winter session on Thursday after he made objectionable remarks against speaker Rahul Narvekar. The party’s group leader in assembly was also prohibited from entering Vidhan Bhavan premises in Nagpur and Mumbai till the end of session.
Pawar said they were not allowed to speak by the speaker on the issue, so they boycotted the question hour.
Senior Shiv Sena leader Bhaskar Jadhav demanded the Maharashtra police to arrest MP Rahul Shewale for his alleged involvement with wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s girlfriend. “As it is proven that Shewale had funded the woman close to Ibrahim, he should be put behind bars,” he said.
