Singers give their best at musical ‘Surmayee Sham’

Nagpur: The third edition of ‘Surmayee Sham’, a music programme organized by Kaladalan, saw talented singers give their best at Scientific Society Hall, Laxmi Nagar, on Monday.

The programme, conceptualized by Madhavi Pande, mostly comprising Hindi songs from many genres, was dedicated to legendary music director Naushad to mark his death anniversary.

Shrikant Sapre commenced the musical event with the rendition of ‘Aaj ki raat mere dil ki salami lele’. Mangesh Pawar presented ‘Suhani raat dhal chuki’.

Songs ‘Woh jab yaad aaye’, ‘Saaz ho tum’, ‘Madhuban mein Radhika’, ‘Raat ke humsafar’, ‘Yaad mein teri jaag jaag ke’, ‘Aaja re aa zara’, ‘Main kahi kavi na baan jau’, ‘Agar tum na hote’ and ‘Mera pyar bhi tu hai’ had the audience go down memory lane. Marathi song ‘Rang bavrya’ was presented effectively by Savitru Pophali.

Music lovers enjoyed songs ‘Ude jab jab zulfe teri’, ‘Aaj kal tere mere pyar ke charche’, ‘Laagi chhute na ab toh sanam’ and ‘Mujhe duniyawalo sharabi na samjho’.

Dabhekar and Balakrishnan presented upbeat number ‘Jai jai shiv shankar’.

The singers included Parineeta Maturkar, Jaya Dabhekar, Neeta Kolharkar, T Balakrishnan, Deepali Sapre, Shrikant Sapre, Mangesh Pawar, Sama Solav, Jayashree Lule, Chetan Elkunchwar, Savitru Pophali and Vijay Pande.

The accompanying artistes were Pawan Manwatkar and Raja Rathor (keyboard), Ritesh Trivedi (guitar), Nandu Gohane (octopad), Nandu Wadurwar (tumba) and Prashant Nagmote (tabla).

Anchor Manoj Salpekar had the audience in rapt attention with interesting facts behind each song and the way he shared anecdotes associated with Naushad. Gohane directed the music show while Balasaheb Gajbhiye was the organizer.

Guest singer Sagar Madhumatke, who was the last to present songs, had the audience sway to peppy numbers like ‘Raat kali ek khwab mein aayi’, ‘Tere chehre pe woh jadu hai’, ‘Pal pal dil ke paas’, ‘O hansini’ and ‘Are diwano mujhe pehchano’. His renditions were a class apart.
