SIT formed for dabba trade probe: Joint CP Rajvardhan

Nagpur: A Special Investigation Team (SIT), under senior PI Ravindra Patil, in-charge of detection branch of crime branch, has been formed to take up the probe into the dabba trading case exposed by city police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) last week.
Joint CP Rajvardhan said at a press conference at crime branch on Wednesday that the SIT shall probe the case under him and city police chief SP Yadav. “Day to day feedback on the progress of the probe shall be provided by PI Patil to crime branch senior officers DCP Ranjan Sharma and Deepali Masirkar,” he said.
Though Rajvardhan mentioned Masirkar, earlier in-charge of EOW, as the one who will monitor the probe, a subsequent reshuffle order shifted to DCP to Zone-I. It is not clear whether Masirkar will monitor the probe despite being moved out of crime branch.
After reviewing the probe so far, Rajvardhan also said city police are well equipped to carry out the tedious investigation into the financial white collar crime of dabba trading. “City police shall seek the assistance of other agencies like Sebi, ED or Income Tax department, when required, while conducting the probe at the national level,” he said.
Rajvardhan also said that help of local police shall be taken when there was any need to probe outstation details. “We will rope in services of chartered accountants, legal experts and such other persons for the probe,” he said. The Joint CP also said that bank accounts and other financial details and records of the culprits would be thoroughly probed. “Citizens can feel free to contact police to share information,” he said.
