Veteran Marathi actor Dr Vilas Ujawane passes away in Mumbai
Nagpur: Veteran Marathi theatre, television, and film actor Dr Vilas Ujawane, originally from Nagpur, passed away on Friday afternoon in Mumbai. He is survived by wife Anjali, and son Kapil.Dr Ujawane breathed his last at Om Hospital in Borivali. Known for his powerful voice and remarkable acting skills, he carved a niche for himself in Marathi entertainment. He played impactful roles in numerous plays, television serials, and films, including the popular TV series ‘Vadalvat'.A BAMS graduate from Nagpur, Dr Ujawane was actively involved in theatre during his college days. He participated in state drama competitions and children's theatre through groups like Rangswanand. To establish himself as a professional actor, he moved from Nagpur to Pune and later to Mumbai. Over the years, he became known not only for his commanding voice and impeccable performances but also for his disciplined work ethic and amiable personality.In 2017, Dr Ujawane suffered a brain stroke, followed by multiple health issues, including heart disease, jaundice, and paralysis. Despite these challenges, he made a strong comeback in 2022, returning to films and television. His determination helped him overcome physical limitations and resume acting.His deep connection with Nagpur's theatre scene remained intact until the end. Last year, he was part of a film shoot near Butibori, close to Nagpur.
