NEW DELHI: A woman was killed, and five others were seriously injured after a truck crashed into vehicles in the ghat section of a national highway in Maharashtra's Nashik district, police said on Saturday.

The multi-vehicle collision took place at Rahud ghat on the Mumbai-Agra Highway near Chandwad at approximately 10 pm on Friday, according to an official statement.

Initial reports indicated that a truck's brake failure on a downward slope caused it to collide with several vehicles, including cars and trucks, whilst travelling towards Mumbai.

A 45-year-old female car passenger lost her life in the incident, whilst five individuals suffered severe injuries and several others received minor wounds.

The casualties were immediately transported to Chandwad sub-district hospital for medical attention.

The incident caused temporary traffic disruption on the highway, but normal vehicular movement resumed by daybreak.
