Given a large number of accidents and deaths, the Nashik Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Saturday organised a brainstorming workshop at the Children’s Traffic Education Park to analyse the accidents and come out with measures to bring down the numbers.

“The highest number of road accidents take place on relatively open roads — like the state or national highways — where there is scope for motorists to speed their vehicles. Overspeeding, wrong-side driving and overtaking from the wrong side lead to maximum road accidents,” said Vinay Ahire, the deputy RTO of Nashik.

“An analysis has revealed that older vehicles were involved in the least number of accidents, whereas vehicles that are less than five years old were involved in the maximum number of accidents,” Ahire added talking on concerns about the road-fitness of older vehicles.

It was also found that the highest number of accidents take place between 3 pm and 6 pm and two-wheeler riders account for most fatalities.
