NASHIK: The Muslim fraternity in Nashik, including in the textile town of Malegaon, observed Shab-e-Barat on Tuesday by visiting graveyards to offer prayers for the peace of the departed souls of their near and dear ones.

Sheher-e Khatib Hafiz Hisamuddin Khatib said, “Shab-e-Barat is observed with great religious fervour every year. This year too, people started visiting the graveyards on Tuesday evening. Apart from prayers for the department souls, people also offer prayers for the progress of the nation.”

Tehsin Khan, a resident of the Nashik Road area, said, “This is a holy night when Allah is more forgiving. The night is for seeking mercy for the departed and ill family members. After dusk, Muslim worshippers begin their prayers with ‘Isha ki namaz’ and continue praying until the next day.”

Additional SP of Malegaon Aniket Bharati told TOI that over 600 personnel were deployed to ensure the Shab-e-Barat was observed on a peaceful note.

Considering that people visit the Bada Kabristan and masjids for the special namaz and also greet one another during the night, bandobast was in place. Senior PI of Bhadrakali police station Datta Pawar said bandobast was maintained in Nashik city as well for Shab-e-Barat.
