Police nab chain snatchers from Delhi

NASHIK: A team of city crime branch officers — on their way to Delhi for recovery of stolen goods — chanced upon a Shrirampur-based gang of chain snatchers that too was on their way to the capital.

After nabbing them, the suspects confessed to have committed six offences of chain snatching and cheating in different parts of the city. The suspects have been identified as Salim Nur Ali Irani (40),

Kambar Shahjahan Jafari

(32), Riyaz Irani (38), Raj Irani (34), and Mohammad Jafari (34).

The suspects were going to Delhi in a car. A unit 1 crime branch officer of the crime branch said they had recently arrested a gang of four burglars from Vadodara in

Gujarat

. The said gang members had committed 11 house break-ins in the city.

of crime branch unit 1 said they were taking three burglars to Delhi to recover the articles stolen by them on Tuesday, when they got a tip-off about the chain snatchers.

“While we were travelling between Jaipur and Noida, we got information that the chain snatchers — on our radar for the past one-and-a-half months — were also moving towards Delhi. We immediately reported this to commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal and DCP Vijay Magar. On their instructions, a trap was laid and the five chain snatchers were detained on Tuesday evening,”

Wagh said that it was a task in itself to keep a watch on all the eight criminals, including the three they were taking with them to Delhi for recovery of stolen articles.

“Keeping all the criminals detained with us was a tough task as we were only four of us. Later, additional force was sent to us and the criminals were brought to Nashik,” he added.

The police have recovered 127 gram of gold from them and the total worth of articles recovered including the car in which they were travelling is Rs 5.17 lakh.
