The minister, who was in Nashik on Monday, said that at present the ministry has taken up implementation of its maiden project in Assam to produce ethanol out of bamboo with the help of a foreign firm. “We are expecting the project to be operational by April or May next year.”

Once that project is complete, the ministry will start a similar project in Maharashtra since there is a vast area where bamboo is cultivated. This project will benefit the farmers involved in bamboo plantation.

Teli further said that at present 10% of blending of ethanol in the fuel is taking place and the plan is to increase the blending of ethanol in fuel by 20% by 2025.

Teli said that the Centre is taking measures to reduce the pollution and is promoting CNG vehicles.

“We are focusing on producing more CNG and increasing the number of CNG production plants in Maharashtra and other parts of the country. We are also planning to have a CNG refilling outlet at every petrol pump owned by the PSU oil companies,” said Teli.
