Traders booked for cheating Baglan farmers of Rs2.7 crore
Nashik: The Jaykheda police of Nashik Rural on Monday registered three FIRs — two against a trading company and the third against two traders — for cheating over 300 farmers in Baglan taluka of around Rs2.7 crore.
Police said that in the first complaint, a farmer from Pimpalkothe in Baglan stated that five people of a certain trading company in Tahrabad of the same taluka bought maize from him and 180 other farmers in Feb 2026 with an assurance to pay within a month.
However, the suspects kept pushing the payment date and eventually did not make any payment till June 8. The suspects owe around Rs 1.4 crore to the farmers.
The same set of people have been accused of cheating another set of 102 onion growers of the same taluka of over Rs70 lakh. In this case too, a farmer stated that the suspects concerned had bought onions from the farmers in Feb this year with an assurance of making the payment within a month’s time. However, the farmers did not get any money.
Jaykheda police registered a case against five people of the trading company under relevant sections of the BNS.
A set of grape growers were also cheated of Rs69 lakh by two other traders who purchased the produce from the concerned farmers in Dec last year with a promise of making the payment within 21 days. However, the farmers are yet to receive the payment.
Assistant police inspector Sagar Kale of Jaykheda police said, “The cases are being investigated and necessary action will be taken against the suspects.”
