old wadas collapsed in Old Nashik area

in a span of 14 hours owing to heavy rain that lashed the city on Monday evening.

No one was hurt in both the incidents as the dilapidated structures were vacant. After being informed, fire brigade officials went to the spot and cleared the debris.

In the first incident that took place at 6.15pm on Monday evening, a wall of a wada at

Pinjar Ghat in Multanpura area

came down. Two motorbikes parked near the wada got damaged as the wall fell on the vehicles.

The second incident took place in Saraf Bazar area of the city where an old wada caved-in at 8.25am. With these two fresh incidents, a total of three old wadas have collapsed in the city in past one week.

On Friday (June 28), three members of a family got trapped under the debris of wada that collapsed in Old Nashik area of the city. The trio received minor injuries and was immediately rushed to civil hospital by fire brigade officials.

Last year in July, two people lost their lives after a wada collapsed due to heavy rains. Municipal commissioner Radhakrishna Game has already directed the officials concerned to vacate all dilapidated old wadas and structures in the city with the help of police.

The

Nashik Municipal Corporation

(NMC) has already served notices to owners and occupants of 397 dilapidates structures across the city asking them to vacate the place. The civic body has also warned that the owners would be responsible in case any untoward incident takes place.

A civic official said they have already served notices to the owners of these dilapidated wadas as it is very dangerous for people to stay in such buildings. Despite this, the occupants refuse to vacate these buildings.

Of the 397 dilapidates structures identified across the city, 150 are located in Panchavati division, while 103 are in Nashik West division. Around 67 such structures are in

Nashik Road

, 39 in Nashik East, 23 in Cidco and remaining 15 in Satpur division.
