Will probe how call detail records in astrologer Ashok Kharat case landed in private hands: CM Devendra Fadnavis
NASHIK: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds the home portfolio, said on Sunday that the govt will conduct an inquiry into how the Call Detail Records (CDR) of rape-accused astrologer Ashok Kharat landed in the hands of private individuals. Fadnavis also stated that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken cognizance of Kharat's bank accounts and properties, noting that the agency's inquiry is already underway.
The CDR issue comes against the backdrop of claims made by activist Anjali Damania on April 3. Damania alleged that she received CDRs from anonymous sources showing that deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde made 17 calls to Kharat in the past.
Several other politicians also allegedly contacted Kharat during an unspecified period, she claimed. A political row has erupted over Damania's claims, with Shiv Sena ministers and leaders questioning how sensitive information was leaked to a third party and whether it was part of an attempt to politically corner Shinde.
Fadnavis told reporters on the sidelines of a ‘Sant Sammelan' in Nashik, "First of all, obtaining CDRs falls within the exclusive domain of investigating agencies. The state govt will definitely inquire into how the CDR was leaked and who leaked it to private individuals."
Fadnavis said the judicial system relies on strong evidence rather than private conversations. "Justice demands strong evidence, not just allegations and counter-allegations or who contacted whom. Action will be taken only against those who were party to the heinous crimes committed by Ashok Kharat," CM said.
Asked about the ED inquiry into Kharat's properties and accounts, the chief minister said, "The SIT is doing a good job and has unearthed many details about Kharat. The SIT has won the confidence of the people, who are coming forward to register complaints—12 so far—and share information. According to my information, the ED has started its inquiry after taking cognizance of the findings so far. Once the land properties are mapped, the state government will also take appropriate steps."
While addressing the gathering of seers and sages, Fadnavis added that the govt is spending Rs 30,000 crore—an amount that could rise to Rs 35,000 crore—to develop infrastructure in the city for the forthcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

Please focus on the culprit instead of wasting energy on onlookers. If the information is true, then the government should thank Damaniya for aiding in the quick detection of the crime.Read allPost comment
