NAVI MUMBAI: A museum will be set up in a Raigad zilla parishad school at Kihim,

A 3D show will also be held at the site as proposed. This will be an additional attraction for tourists.
Dr Salim Ali’s residential house was in Kihim; he had begun bird watching as well as research at Kihim. His relatives were contacted by the district administration and tourism department. An architectural marvel has been proposed for the museum project.
“The Dr Salim Ali museum will promote tourism,” said district officials.
Alibaug and Murud talukas in Raigad district, which have a long shoreline, attract a large number of birds. Also, many events related to bird-watching are organised here annually. The coastal belt and Mangaon are known as natural habitats for migratory birds.
“The Raigad Zilla Parishad school in Kihim was shut for long due to a low number of students; but will now house the proposed Dr Salim Ali museum. Rs 55 lakh will be spent for repairing the school building. The museum will cost around Rs 1 crore, which will be spent through the district planning development committee and regional tourism department.
“Tourists going to Alibaug, Murud,will get an additional attraction besides beaches,” said Aditi Tatkare, guardian minister of Raigad.
“The idea is to provide an additional facility to tourists while school students will get to learn about birds and nature during excursions. A digital museum with a 3D show, booklet, etc can be availedwill be made available in the proposed museum,” added Tatkare.
