Golden jackal tiptoes into Khargar building toilet, kids lock ‘strange-looking dog’ inside

NAVI MUMBAI: A golden jackal was rescued from a common toilet of a building in Kharghar on Tuesday.

Children who were playing in the building compound around 8 pm spotted the "strange-looking dog" walk into the common toilet, the door of which was ajar. One of the children bolted the door from the outside after which a local, Sameer Kadam, alerted forest officials.

To prevent the animal from escaping, forest officials placed a metal cage at the base of the door. The curved top of the cage covered half the height of the door. A net trap was used to block the upper part of the toilet door.

The door was opened and officials waited for the animal which walked into the cage trap, said forest guard Jagdish Rakshe. The rescue operation which started around 9 pm ended by 11 pm.

The cage with the golden jackal in it was loaded onto their vehicle. It was driven down to the creekside mangroves where the animal jumped off and disappeared into the wild.
