NAVI MUMBAI: The Mumbai-Goa highway was shut for traffic for over 25 hours after an LPG-laden tanker fell 30ft down into Anjnari river in Ratnagiri district's Lanja taluka at 3pm on Thursday, resulting a gas leak.


Power supply was cut off in the nearby areas till the tanker, which was filled with 17MT LPG, was pulled out of the river at 4.30pm Friday and the leak arrested, said inspector Dadasaheb Ghutukade of Lanja police station.


The tanker was plying from Uran to Goa when the driver, Ramdas Jadhav (24), lost control of the vehicle on a slope turn and it fell into the river. Jadhav died on the spot.



Police said that heavy vehicles were the worst hit as traffic was shut on the highway as a preventive measure.
