Pravin Padvi, senior inspector of Panvel GRP, said that on Monday, Bote finished her work at a house in Belapur and was headed to another house in Kharghar. Usually, she travelled by bus to reach the households where she works, but due to heavy rain on Monday, she opted to travel by train.

Around 10am, she reached Belapur station to catch a train to Kharghar. "While waiting for the train, she suddenly fainted and fell on the railway tracks just when the train arrived at the platform and got run over," he said. "Co-commuters raised an alarm after which the motorman reversed the train. The woman was found bleeding profusely as both her legs below the knees were severely injured," said Padvi. When contacted, orthopaedic surgeon Dr Hrishikesh Patil said, "We succeeded in saving her left leg, but her right leg will have to be amputated."
