Navi Mumbai businessman lured by dating site offer, loses Rs 3.7 lakh

businessman was cheated of Rs 3.7 lakh by a woman who offered him membership to a dating website. The

fraudster

, who identified herself as Priya Gupta, told the victim that he would be able to spend "quality time" with girls available on the website.

Gupta called him, offered membership and asked him to transfer several amounts for the process to the bank account of a Sujeet Dey in Kolkata. He was assured that the entire amount, exempting a Rs 920 for registration, would be refunded to him. When the money he had transferred under various ruses totalled Rs 3.7 lakh, and Gupta asked him to transfer another Rs 1.3 lakh so he could be refunded Rs 5 lakh, the victim realised he was being duped.

The victim approached the Nerul police, who then filed an FIR for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
