Expressway, service lane accidents kill 3

GREATER NOIDA

: Three persons were killed and 10 others injured in two separate accidents on Yamuna expressway on Saturday.

In the first mishap, a speeding Swift Dzire hit a slow moving dumper as fog reduced the visibility on the Agra-Greater Noida side of the expressway in the morning. The car driver, Pankaj Kumar (30), died on the spot while two occupants, Vrij Bihari (40) and Anurag Sharma (25), were seriously injured. The accident took place 25km from zero point at around 8.30 am.

According to officials, some 10 cars collided with each other in a short span of time. Some passersby informed police about the accident. A team from Kasna police station and another from Ecotech 1 reached the spot and rushed the victims to different hospitals.

According to police, Vrij Bihari and Anurag Sharma were on their way from Vrindavan to Greater Noida when the accident happened. “Prima facie, it seems the Swift driver could not apply the brakes on time and rammed the dumper. The car was badly damaged and the occupants got trapped inside,” said a police officer.

where Pankaj was declared brought dead. “Vrij Bihari and Anurag suffered multiple fractures,” said a doctor of Kailash Hospital. The dumper driver fled from the spot.

The other injured have been identified as Gaurav Mani Tripathi, Suresh Mandal and Onkar Singh. Five others also received minor injuries. A lot of cars got damaged, but they moved on.

Though the police team from both the stations reached the spot, they did not file any report saying the incident took place beyond the area of their jurisdiction. Later Arun Kumar, circle officer 1, Greater Noida, said that the Kasna police station has filed a report.

In the second accident, a 30-year old man and his elderly mother died after they were hit by a vehicle on the service lane of Yamuna expressway near Sports City in the afternoon. Anil Kumar and Maya Devi, residents of Nangla village in Jewar, were going on a motorcycle when the accident took place.

The front wheel of the bike got detached due to collision and the two received serious injuries. A police team reached the spot but without an ambulance. They called a tempo which reached after one hour but the victims died by then. Rajpal Tomar, SHO, Dankaur said the victims had already died when the police team reached the spot.
