Ghaziabad DM orders tighter road dust control
Ghaziabad: District magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar on Wednesday evening chaired a meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and directed department officials to enact measures to keep road dust in check in an effort to tackle the district’s air pollution levels. Chief development officer Kumar Saurabh and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.
The DM also asked Ghaziabad Development Authority, Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, Public Works Department and other concerned departments to take steps to achieve visible results.
In line with the order, municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik presented an action plan to make the city completely dust-free. Taking note of the suggestions, Mandar asked the officials of the civic bodies to work jointly and run a campaign as per the action plan.
The DM said roads that are not under the jurisdiction of GMC — those maintained by Housing Development Council or PWD — will also be considered under the plan.
Mandar asked the officials to conduct an on-site inspection before beginning the campaign.
Malik also informed officials that a GMC-run campaign is already under way, in which roads are regularly being swept with mechanical sweepers. “Tankers fitted with water sprinklers are used throughout the day to help settle fugitive dust,” he added.
