Lights defunct, streets plunge into darkness
NOIDA: Stretches across several sectors, such as 105, 30, 48, 55, 62, 122, 36, Beta 2, Delta 1, and Swarn Nagri, are shrouded in darkness because of defunct lights. Residents complained dense fog was making matters worse during the night or early morning.
Also, a minor fire in block A of Sector 105 resulted in intermittent to prolonged outages from late Monday through Tuesday.
Pointing out how non-functional streetlights to long outages issue is also closely tied to the safety of the residents, particularly women, Rajesh Bhati from Swarn Nagri said, “Children and women don't feel safe stepping out of their house after sunset. These non-lit roads also pose a risk of accidents.”
Unpruned trees contribute to the problem further. Branches often encroach on the streetlights, eclipsing the light.
A resident of Sector 55 said that overgrown branches often stretch towards the streetlights, blocking the light and obstructing views in the sector. “Unpruned trees may develop weak or dead branches that can fall and cause property damage or injury. Pruning is an important part of tree maintenance,” added the resident.
Kapil Muni, SDO of PVVNL, said that the shutdown was initiated following a fire in A block.
“We implemented a precautionary shutdown earlier following a fire incident in Sector 105. Supply was restored by Tuesday afternoon,” added Muni. TNN
