Noida Sector 19 suffers dirty water
NOIDA: Even as supply of
“Dirty water is being supplied for drinking purposes in sector-19, for the past several days. The water is so dirty, resembling gutter water that it cannot be used for any purpose like washing, bathing etc. Repeated complaints made to the concerned authorities, both written and verbal, during the past several years have proved futile. It appears that it is beyond the control and capacity of the water department of
Gupta further states that the water pressure is also very low. Despite reporting the matter to officials in authority, Gupta claims there was no response so far. “The matter was earlier as well as complaint made at call centre. But it was arbitrarily closed without actually rectifying the problem,” said Gupta.
Citing health hazards of residents under the current spell of dengue and chikungunya, Gupta adds that there’s frequent disruption in the normal supply of water supply for different reasons. “As the residents are very much agitated over the issue, we’d prefer that the matter - entire project vis production, maintenance and distribution of water in the sector – be handed over to some private expert agency which can supply clean drinking water to the residents,” said Gupta who’s written to authority CEO P K Agarwal, MP Mahesh Sharma and MLA
Moreover, because the sector is one of the earlier settlements of Noida, its infrastructure issues such as pipes, valves, filters etc. are rusting, old and in need of repair/replacement.
When contacted Atul Kumar, project engineer (Jal 4) maintained that the water department is already processing flushing out of toxins from filters, valves and other purifying measures such as chlorinating it in the sector. “As for repair of pipes, the matter is under e-tendering process. Once it comes through, work will begin on the same,” said Kumar.
In the absence of Ganga water from Oct 10 for a month, Kumar maintained that the department is prepared with enough supply from underground storage tanks, rainy wells and ground water source.
