Ghaziabad:Ghaziabad: A 29-year-old married woman, who was pursuing doctoral degree from an engineering college in Sultanpur, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her apartment in Sanjay Nagar on Friday. A suicide note, running into nearly two pages, has been recovered from the house.

The woman, Rukmini Sharma, was pursuing PhD from Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology in Sultanpur. Rukmini was found hanging from a ceiling fan, with a stole tied around her neck, in the bedroom of their first-floor flat at M-Block of Sector 23 in Sanjay Nagar. She used to share the flat with her husband, Rohit Rai, who works at a real estate firm in Gurgaon, and his younger brother, Mohit, an engineer in Noida. Rukmini and Rohit got married a little over a year ago.

Investigations inside her flat found that she had fasted on Navratra and conducted puja. "The woman was wearing a new saree, which even had the price tag on it, when her body was found. She had also wrapped her torso with a red-coloured stole used while performing rituals. When repeated knocks by the cook went unanswered, she called the neighbours. They cut through the door to peep inside. Police were informed when they saw her body hanging from a ceiling fan," said Sanjay Nagar police outpost in-charge Subhash Gautam.

Rukmini's brother, Anurag Sharma, who arrived in Ghaziabad on Saturday from their hometown, Bhadohi, refused to register any complaint.

No one has been blamed in the note. The letter stated that she was leaving the world as "Mata Rani" had called her and it was time for her soul to mingle with that of the goddess. Police are examining the suicide note to ascertain its veracity.
