Adani lays foundation stone for two key eye care facilities in Saran
Patna: Adani Group chairman and business tycoon Gautam Adani on Sunday performed groundbreaking ceremonies for two major eye care institutions at Mastichak village in Saran district, which will have the capacity to perform up to 3.3 lakh surgeries annually and provide training to 1,000 ophthalmology professionals.
Joined by his wife Priti Adani, chairperson of the Adani Foundation, Gautam performed the “bhoomi pujan” for the Adani Centre for Eye Diseases and the Adani Training Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences.
The two upcoming facilities will be attached to the well-known Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital at Mastichak. Together, they are expected to create a large medical ecosystem with the capacity to perform up to 3.3 lakh eye surgeries every year and train 1,000 ophthalmology professionals annually. According to an Adani Group statement, the Adani Foundation, the conglomerate’s CSR arm, has pledged Rs 150 crore for the projects.
“The Adani Foundation will develop the Adani Centre for Eye (ACE) and the Adani Training in Ophthalmic Medicine (ATOM) through a Rs 150-crore commitment, creating an ecosystem with capacity for 3.3 lakh eye surgeries annually and training for 1,000 eye health professionals every year,” the group said.
During the ceremony, Gautam spoke of service as a lifelong principle. He said he believed in the philosophy of “seva hi sadhana hai” and announced a “personal commitment of Rs 500 crore” to the non-profit Akhand Jyoti Foundation. The contribution is meant to strengthen its “long-term humanitarian and community health care mission across the country”.
The group said the newly formed Adani Akhand Jyoti Foundation would “expand affordable vision care and community health care access beyond Bihar across underserved regions in India”.
In a post on X, Gautam wrote, “‘Seva Hi Sadhana Hai’ is not merely a slogan, but a guiding philosophy that must translate compassion into lasting institutions for society. Restoring sight is not merely a medical intervention. It is about returning hope, confidence and dignity to a human life.”
Calling Bihar “a land that has historically given new consciousness and direction to the nation”, he said the trust would carry the spirit of service born in Bihar to neglected communities across India.
Mrityunjay Tiwari, CEO of the Akhand Jyoti Trust, attended the event. The Adani Foundation also announced a 200-bed hospital in Pirpainti near its upcoming thermal power plant in Bhagalpur district.
