BAU launches ‘Cloth Bank’ to support underprivileged

Bhagalpur: In addition to imparting quality education and promoting modern farming techniques through its research, the Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) at Sabour-Bhagalpur has launched a ‘Cloth Bank' to distribute clothes to the needy and underprivileged.Bhagalpur DM Nawal Kishor Choudhary and BAU VC D R Singh recently inaugurated this initiative at the university's premises.The clothes, including blankets, are being collected from donors and distributed to the needy after being identified by the committee of the ‘Cloth Bank', established under the Internal Quality Assurance Center (IQAC) at BAU. Since the launch of the ‘Cloth Bank' this week, the BAU has distributed clothes to more than 200 beneficiaries.BAU VC said this is an initiative for streamlining the process of collecting clothes, blankets, monetary support and other essentials and distributing these among the needy. "Apart from the teachers, students are also being involved in the ‘Cloth Bank' programme. The donations are also being sought by collaborating with banking sectors, corporates and other private organisations for upscaling the initiative.Bhagalpur DM Nawal Kishor Choudhary, while lauding the efforts of the BAU, said it is a unique initiative of donating clothes for the beneficiaries. "The efforts will foster a sense of compassion and social responsibility among the people," he said.
