Bhikhari Thakur’s literary works hailed

Patna: A cultural programme was organised at Premchand Rangshala here on Monday, to commemorate the 52nd death anniversary of Bhikhari Thakur, often hailed as the ‘Shakespeare of Bhojpuri’. This event was jointly organised by the department of art, culture and youth, and Bihar Sangeet Natak Akademi in Thakur’s memory.
Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, additional chief secretary of department of art, culture and youth, inaugurated the event. The gathering witnessed a discussion shedding light on the extraordinary life and illustrious works of Bhikhari Thakur. Among his vast literary contributions, his magnum opus, ‘Bidesiya’, holds a special place.
This literary masterpiece explores the emotional turmoil and struggles faced by individuals and their loved ones when compelled to leave their homeland in search of employment and means of livelihood.
In addition to the discussion, a folk music show was also organised. The pulsating beats and soulful melodies resonated in the auditorium, evoking appreciation from the audience. The event captured the essence of Bhikhari Thakur's artistic brilliance and his profound impact on the Bhojpuri heritage.
