PATNA: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Tuesday declared results for Intermediate (Class XII). This year, the overall pass percentage stood at 83.70%, an increase of 3.5% when compared to last year's 80.15%.

With a pass percentage of 83.50, girls have outshone boys whose figures stood at 82.01%. Somya Sharma and Rajnish Kumar Pathak, both from S Sinha College, Aurangabad, topped in commerce stream by securing 95% marks. Mohaddesa of Senior Secondary School, Bayasi, Purnia, who also scored 95%, topped in arts stream. Ayushi Nandan of R Lal College, Khagaria, scored 94.8% to top in science stream.

Altogether 93.95% students aced in exam in commerce stream, 83.93% in science stream, 82.74% in arts stream and 85.2% in vocational courses.

Additional chief secretary (education) Dipak Kumar Singh said online portal would open on April 3 so that girls can apply for incentives under Kanya Utthan Yojna. "From next year, BSEB will take bank details of girls during form-filling process so that they don't have to fill separate form after results," he said.

Singh added the toppers of all streams will get Rs 1 lakh, a laptop and one Kindle e-book reader. The second rank holders will get Rs 75,000, a Kindle reader and a laptop. Third rank holders will also get the laptop and Kindle reader with a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Moreover, the fourth and fifth rank holders of all three streams will get Rs 15,000 each along with a laptop.

BSEB chairman Anand Kishore said Bihar has taken the lead in declaring Class XII results in the country for the fifth consecutive year. "The board developed a unique software and each candidate was issued a unique code. The exams were held in a free and fair manner," he added.

Of the 13.18 lakh Intermediate students who wrote the papers from February 1 to 11 at 1,464 exam centres in the state, 10,91,948 have passed.
