Bihar cricket bodies continue to spar
PATNA: The tussle between cricket associations in state doesn’t seem to end even as the Ranji Trophy is approaching. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had recently reinstated Bihar for the competition after a gap of 18 years, bringing the total teams to 29.
Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) secretary Aditya Verma on Tuesday said the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) did not have full membership of BCCI even as the latter is busy selecting players for the Ranji Trophy and focusing on the groundwork for redevelopment of Moin-ul-Haq stadium.
“According to the BCCI norms, financial support for redevelopment of Moin-ul-Haq stadium will be extended to only one authorized cricket association running in any state. BCA does not have full membership of BCCI to receive the financial assistance,” Verma said.
The BCA has, however, termed Verma’s claims as “hypothetical” and “baseless”. “The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has approved BCA as the authorized body for organizing cricket in Bihar. After the segregation of Bihar and Jharkhand cricket associations, several cricket associations were created in Bihar. However, these associations were derecognized by the Supreme Court. BCA is the only authorized cricket association in Bihar. It receives all kinds of assistance from BCCI directly. We have also started selecting players for the upcoming Ranji Trophy,” said Subair Chandra Mishra, tournament committee convener of BCA.
