The posters, which took a dig at the former deputy chief minister, terming him as “tonti chor” (water tap thief) and “Faileshwar Yadav” (a taunt referring to his poor academic record), drew sharp reactions from RJD.

RJD president Lalu Prasad was also described as “fodder thief” on the posters, which did not reveal which organisation(s) or individual(s) was behind their distribution. A stung RJD alleged BJP hand behind the posters, and accused NDA of resorting to below-the-belt tactics due to its inability to counter the opposition. “BJP is devoid of any credible issue and hence it has indulged in such nasty acts,” RJD spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav said. He claimed Tejashwi’s “governance model” during the GA’s 17 months in power had left an impression on the public.

Denying anything was wrongly taken away from the bungalow, the RJD spokesperson said: “If Tejashwi has done anything wrong, the building construction department must have released the inventory. Instead, the petty netas are making baseless allegations against him. We will issue legal notices to them.” Before making any accusations, BJP should have verified what condition the bungalow was in when it was handed over to Tejashwi after his predecessor, Tarkishore Prasad, vacated it, Yadav said.
