The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised yellow alerts, indicating that isolated places in West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Purnia, Khagaria and Bhagalpur districts are likely to experience heatwave conditions till June 4.

"Temperatures are set to rise by 2 to 3 notches in the next few days, crossing 42 degrees at some places, along with heatwave at isolated parts of many districts across the state," said Ashish Kumar Singh, a scientist at Patna Meteorological Centre.

Patna, along with other districts such as Aurangabad, Kaimur and Rohtas, is expected to witness the onset of heatwave conditions starting from Friday, according to the IMD alert.

As per Patna Meteorological Centre's evening bulletin, five districts, including Valmikinagar in West Champaran and Sheikhpura, experienced heatwave on Wednesday as the mercury soared up to 42.4 degrees C and 42.2 degrees C, respectively. Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees C.

"The feel like temperature is expected to be high during this week and dry weather conditions will prevail over the state," said Singh.

The scorching heat pushed the 'feel like' temperature to unprecedented levels with Valmikinagar taking the lead at a 'feel like' temperature of 55.58 degrees C on Wednesday. Motihari in East Champaran followed at 52.91 degrees C, while Patna registered a 'feel like' temperature of 46.26 degrees C.

The heat has left Patnaites grappling with oppressive conditions, as the soaring temperatures continued to test their endurance.

"The heat is really affecting my work. It's incredibly difficult to concentrate on the tasks as I constantly sweat and feel dehydrated," said Nayab Zeba, an engineer based at Bank Road.

"I'm finding it extremely challenging to plan my classes during the day due to the intense heat. I often have to reschedule them, which becomes inconvenient at times," said Ranjan Sharma, a tutor in Buddha Colony.
