Patna: An eight-year-old girl lost her life after allegedly being slammed to the ground by her uncle during a family clash over an old land dispute at Jhajha village under Fullidumar police station in Banka district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Deepika Bharti, daughter of Rajiv Yadav. Based on the complaint lodged by her mother, police filed an FIR against nine people, including the accused uncle.
According to police, the incident took place on Saturday when the child began recording the clash at her home on a cellphone. She sustained serious injuries and died while being taken to the hospital.
Gunjan Vishwas, SDPO of Banka said, “The police have registered a case against nine people, including the accused uncle, Pankaj Yadav, after a complaint was lodged by the child's mother, Gunjan Devi, on Sunday morning. The incident stems from an old dispute over two and a half bighas of land involving the deceased’s father. Pankaj wanted to sell a part of the land that was opposed by Gunjan and her husband.”
On Saturday, Pankaj allegedly attacked their residence and physically assaulted the family. During the altercation, when Deepika began recording the incident, Pankaj grabbed her and slammed her to the ground, causing serious injury to the child. “She was initially treated by a local doctor, but her condition deteriorated and she died near Kajraili while being taken to Mayaganj hospital in Bhagalpur,” the SDPO said.
Her family also protested during the postmortem at Banka sadar hospital, demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Banka SDM Rajkumar, SDPO Amar Vishwas, and Town SHO Rakesh Kumar arrived there and managed the situation. “An investigation is ongoing, and strict action will be taken against the culprits. Raids are being carried out to nab the persons involved in the incident,” the officer added.
