HC stays arrest of IPS officer Aditya till July 19 in DA case

Patna: Patna high court has stayed the arrest of suspended IPS officer Aditya Kumar till July 19, in connection with a case lodged by a special vigilance unit (SVU) alleging accumulation of huge assets disproportionate to his known source of income. A single bench of Justice Satyavrat Verma while hearing the anticipatory bail plea of Aditya, passed this order on June 23, a copy of which was made available on Sunday.Senior counsel for the petitioner, Satya Darshi Sanjay, argued that there is no asset, allegedly created in excess of his client’s income which has not been disclosed to the income-tax department. All income and assets have been diligently disclosed to the IT department by filing returns. Aditya was an engineer working and had a handsome income prior to his appointment in IPS. Moreover, his father and other family members also fall in the category of high income group. Sanjay also pointed out that Aditya had a gallantry work record while combating the Naxalites and it is on account of his popularity and departmental tussle with senior officers he has been framed in a false case. The counsel also submitted that it is not a case of disproportionate assets amassed by any illegal means by Aditya rather a case instituted out of malice and ill-will of his client's seniors including the then DGP of Bihar. SUV counsel Vikram Rana opposed Aditya’ s anticipatory bail plea stating that he was a corrupt officer and during the check period from 2011-2012, he has illegally acquired huge assets by corrupt and illegal means either in his own name or in the name of his dependents to the extent of Rs. 1,37,18,114, which is over and above his legitimate source of income. This matter will be heard again on July 19.
