Illicit affair angle surfaces in Muz woman, kids death case
Patna: The woman, whose body was found with her three children in Muzaffarpur district on Jan 15, had an illicit affair with a person, police said.
The bodies of the woman and her three children were recovered tied to each other with a dupatta (scarf) near Chandwara Bridge in Ahiyapur police station area. They were identified as Mamta Devi (28), wife of Krishna Mohan, and their children Kriti (2), Aditya (7), and Ankush (5). The family was living in rented accommodation in Sipahapur locality under Ahiyapur police station area.
Based on a complaint filed by Mamta’s husband Krishna Mohan, her lover Amod was arrested on Saturday and sent to jail for allegedly kidnapping the woman and her children, police said.
The police added a notice was also issued to the woman’s husband for questioning amid allegations that he often assaulted his wife.
However, it is still not confirmed whether all the four persons died by suicide or whether it was a murder. The real cause of death would be confirmed through the viscera report, police said on Sunday.
Police said the woman and her children were missing from their home since Jan 10 morning, after they went to the local market. Krishna filed a kidnapping complaint against an unidentified caller after he received a call from him on Jan 12. The caller said he was going to marry his wife.
A special investigation team (SIT) was formed to investigate the case on the direction of Muzaffarpur SSP, Kantesh Kumar Mishra.
“Police investigation revealed that Mamta was having an illicit affair with Amod, a resident of Madhubani, for the past one year. Investigation of cellphone numbers provided in the kidnapping application revealed long conversations between Mamta and Amod. Police also found photographs of the two together, which confirm their relationship,” the SSP said.
During interrogation, Amod admitted that the day after Mamta went missing, he spoke with her cousin’s sister-in-law on a video call for about 1.5 hours.
The investigation also revealed that Mamta’s husband often used to thrash her. Police are now investigating whether these deaths were linked to the husband’s torture or some deep conspiracy.
City SP Mohibullah Ansari said considering the seriousness of the case, scientific evidence is being collected.
He said the cause of deaths will be known only after the viscera examination report comes. “Police are now also investigating whether Mamta’s lover deceived her with false promise of marriage, due to which she committed suicide, or whether the entire plan was hatched to eliminate her,” Ansari added.
