Jeweller busy opening shop, man lifts his bag with Rs 30 lakh gold

Begusarai: A burglar stole a bag — containing gold ornaments worth over Rs 30 lakh — belonging to a jeweller, while he was busy opening the shutters of his shop in Birpur Bazar area here on Friday.
Kiran Shah had just opened the front shutter of his shop, and put the bag at the counter, before opening another adjacent shutter, when the burglar lifted the bag and ran away.
A visually shocked Shah later told reporters that the burglar had already ran out of the reach of the bystanders before he could even raise an alarm. "The bag contained more than 400 grams of gold ornaments, along with the keys to his lockers. The value of the items in the bag must be worth over Rs 30 lakh," he said.
Birpur police station SHO Sanjeev Kumar said the actual value of the booty can be assessed only after the shop owner registers a written complaint in this regard. Police are scrutinising the footage of CCTV cameras, installed near the shop, to identify the criminal, he added.
In the CCTV footage, a person is seen approaching the shop casually, lifting the bag and running away.
