JLNMCH alumni meet: A walk down memory lane

BHAGALPUR: The Old Boys’ Association of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JLNMC), Bhagalpur, had a reunion on Saturday, providing an opportunity to the

alumni

to walk down the memory lane, revisit their campus, meet teachers and link up with friends.

The alumni meet christened as ‘Nostalgia 2017’ was a two-day affair in which over 500 former JNMC students now settled in USA, UK and other countries besides different parts of India participated. The association is also celebrating its 47th foundation year as well.

Besides reminiscing about old times spent in the medical college, they also shared their experiences gathered over the years in their respective domains like advancements in treatment of diseases and usage of technology in medical diagnosis and practices. The association also aims to maintain a worldwide network of doctors who have been a part of the institution.

“Our major focus is to provide support to JNMC alumni, which was founded in 1971, and earlier known as Bhagalpur Medical College (BMC),” said UK-based doctor and JNMC alumni Dr Rajiv Ranjan Das.

“We also share our knowledge among the medical fraternity and the prospective doctors here so as to make them aware about the medical advancements in Europe, US and other developed countries and how to provide best health services to the patients here under available facilities,” said London- based doctor and JNMC alumni Dr Keshav Verma.

Those who shared their experiences and participated in the second day’s deliberations are Dr BK Jha (UK), Dr Soumitra Chaterjee (USA), Dr Anita Jha (UK), Dr Anand Prakash (UK), Dr Sandeep (UK) and his British wife Ruth, Dr Manjula (USA), Dr Vinod Khaitan (Nepal), Dr Ajit Agarwal (Appolo Hospital, Kolkata) besides several doctors from Delhi, Siliguri, Patna, Ranchi and other places across the country.

Several JNMC alumni, who are Bhagalpur-based, played a major role in making the two-day event meaningful. They are Dr Hem Shankar Sharma, Dr Manibhushan, Dr Pawan Jha, Dr Roma Yadav, Dr Seema Singh, Dr Mukesh Bihari, Dr Rajiv Lal, Dr Leena Nair, Dr Sujit, Dr B Lal, Dr Ratnesh etc. The overseas alumni are also likely to visit heritage sites and historical places like Vikramshila Mahavihara and others, said the organizing committee members of ‘Nostalgia 2017’.
